Fundamentals of Photography
Learn the art and science of taking great pictures through lecture and hands-on practice. Topics include: aperture, ISO, shutter speed, white balance, equipment & accessories and the basics of composition. Upon completion, you’ll have a solid understanding of your camera’s menus, buttons & settings & how to use them!
Requirements: SLR or mirrorless camera with at least one lens (around 35-50mm recommended), tripod recommended but not required.
Now that you know the basics, expand on your knowledge with instruction on: metering modes, histograms, RAW shooting, HDR, selective focusing, on-camera flash and other creative techniques. This class features more hands-on shooting time and individual creativity is encouraged.
Requirements: Please complete Fundamentals of Photography or have instructor approval to register. SLR or mirrorless camera with at least one lens (around 35-50mm recommended), external flash & tripod recommended but not required.
Intro to Lightroom
This class will introduce students to Adobe Lightroom, software designed for digital photo editing and batch processing. Topics include: importing/exporting, workflow and catalog organization, basic photo editing, output to JPG format and preparing images for print vs online display.
Requirements: Laptop with Adobe Lightroom installed.
Intro to Photoshop
This class will introduce students to Adobe Photoshop. It will include orientation to interface, tools and menus with emphasis on basic editing and exporting for print & online use. It will provide instruction for processing digital images with the use of PS tools and effects.
Requirements: Laptop with Adobe Photoshop installed.
Lighting control is an essential tool for any photographer. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to move your external flash units off-camera. Both small flash units & large studio lights will be discussed. Topics include: equipment overview and setup, manual vs ETTL settings, adding multiple flashes and light ratios, and background control.
Requirements: Please complete Fundamentals of Photography or have basic knowledge of using your camera in Manual mode. SLR or mirrorless camera with at least one external flash & flash trigger.
Studio Lighting for Portraits
Lighting control is an essential tool for any photographer. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to set up a studio portrait shoot from start to finish. Topics include: equipment overview and setup, light placement, the major patterns of light, and posing basics.
Requirements: Please complete Fundamentals of Photography or have basic knowledge of using your camera in Manual mode. Off-Camera Flash course is recommended but not required. SLR or mirrorless camera with at least one external flash & flash trigger.
Close-Up/Macro Photography in Nature
Have you ever wanted to get up close and personal with your subject? In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn about setting up the perfect shot, recommended camera settings, focusing techniques, lighting and specialized equipment & other macro accessories.
Requirements: SLR or mirrorless camera with at least one lens (around 50mm recommended). Macro lens, tripod and external flash recommended but not required.
Have you been thinking about buying a drone or have one you don’t know how to use yet? Learn more about aerial photography from a licensed drone pilot! Get information about: drone safety & basic operation, legal issues, and an overview of commercial drone operator certification. This is not a Part 107 certification class, but information will be provided on the steps to get your commercial license.
Requirements: You are encouraged to bring your own drone if you have one, but it’s not required.
Photo Walk for Kids
Join a professional photographer for a Photo Walk/Scavenger Hunt outdoors. We’ll talk about some photography basics as well as tips for strong compositions like the Rule of Thirds, Leading Lines, & more while taking photos together. A scavenger hunt list will be provided that encourages creative thinking and implementing what we learned.
Requirements: Any kind of camera & a sense of adventure!
